Sakala has been published since 1878 and will celebrate its 140th anniversary on the same year the Republic of Estonia will celebrate its 100th. Sakala was the most innovative and boldly expressive newspaper in Estonia. Today, Sakala brings its readers the latest news from Viljandi County and elsewhere in Estonia and Europe. Readers can enjoy news, reports, features, interviews, and portraits of local decision-makers. The paper offers sharp opinion pieces and discussions, as well as regular culture, rural affairs, business, environment, health, education, consumer, gardening, youth, kids, and humor pages. Sakala is published five times a week – from Tuesday to Saturday.

The free 1leht has been published in Viljandi County twice a month on Mondays since 2007. The publication covers a broad spectrum of content and treats with topics with the potential to benefit locals. 1leht is circulated mainly in shops in the county and reaches all Viljandi mailboxes.
